In 1752, some long forgotten French scientist discovered the electrical nature of lightning.

A month later, Ben Franklin did his own experiment and became the father of electricity.

Why do we celebrate the guy who came in second? 

Because he didn’t play it safe with recommended scientific best practices like the first guy. He took a kid’s toy into a thunderstorm with ambitions to change the world.

And that’s a story worth remembering over 270 years later.
